A heavy slate of state basketball season-openers is on tap Friday for both men’s and women’s teams.

The men’s schedule features 12 games, while the women’s schedule has 10 games.

One the men’s side, Northwestern State hosts LeTourneau at 7 p.m. at Prather Coliseum as Demons coach Mike McCarthy opens his 13th season at the helm.

Elsewhere, former Northwestern State assistant Mark Slessinger debuts as UNO’s men’s basketball coach as the Privateers travel to face New Mexico at 8 p.m.

Additionally, Tulane opens a three-game homestand at Fogelman Arena hosting Alabama A&M at approximately 8 p.m. The game will be the second half of a men’s-women’s doubleheader as the Tulane women host Loyola at 6 p.m.

Louisiana-Monroe’s men travel to face Ole Miss at 6:30 p.m.

The remainder of the state men’s schedule has Bossier Parish CC vs. Coahoma CC, at Shreveport; St. Thomas (Fla.) at Xavier (N.O.); McNeese State at Auburn; Baton Rouge Community College at Lee College at 7 p.m.; Dillard at Southern at 7:30 p.m.; Arkansas Baptist at Southern-Shreveport; Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Northern Arizona, at San Francisco and LSU-Shreveport vs. William Carey.

On the women’s side, Southeastern Louisiana hosts Centenary at 7 p.m. at the University Center in a game that will count as an exhibition for the Ladies.

Also, Louisiana Tech opens its season hosting Missouri State at 7 p.m., while Louisiana-Monroe hosts Stephen F. Austin at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Grambling’s women open their season hosting Paul Quinn College at 7 p.m.

Other women’s game on the schedule include: McNeese State at UCLA; Dillard at Southern; LSU-Shreveport vs. Okla. Christian University; Xavier (New Orleans) vs. Indiana Wesleyan at Georgetown, Ky., 7 p.m. and Baton Rouge Community College at LSU-Eunice at 8 p.m.
