NEW ORLEANS — Tulane will host Southeastern Louisiana for the Green Wave’s home opener at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Turchin Stadium.
The game — the first of four this season between the two programs — will begin a stretch of four straight games at home for Tulane, which hosts Notre Dame for a three-game set beginning Friday night.
“Southeastern is an excellent program that had an outstanding opening weekend,” Tulane coach Rick Jones said. “They are going to be a great challenge for us, as always.”
SLU freshman left-hander Kyle Cedotal (1-0, 0.00), from Denham Springs, will make his first collegiate start. He threw a pair of scoreless innings in relief Saturday, earning the win in a 5-3 victory. Tulane will counter with senior right-hander Tyler Mapes (0-1, 0.00).
Tulane won all three games between the teams last season, and the Green Wave leads the all-time series 71-29.
Tulane (2-1) opened the season by winning the Texas State tournament in San Marcos, Texas. The Green Wave defeated Sam Houston State 2-0 behind Tony Rizzotti’s complete game, one-hit shutout Friday. They lost their second game 6-4 against Texas State despite Alex Byo’s seven strikeout performance. On Sunday, Tulane rebounded with 14 hits in a 6-4 victory of Missouri State.
Southeastern Louisiana (3-0) opened the season by sweeping three home games with Tennessee-Martin.
Southeastern is hitting .305 as a team and the pitching staff has compiled a 2.33 ERA.
Ben Hernandez (.714), Harry Slade (.583), Ladd Rhodes (.400), Corey Bryan (.357) and Sam Roberson (.300) are all hitting .300 or better to lead SLU. Roberson has Southeastern’s only home run, and Bryan leads the Lions with four RBIs.
The top two SLU asssistant coaches — Daniel Latham and Matt Riser — both played at Tulane under Jones. Latham is Tulane’s all-time saves leader with 43, and is second in appearances with 122.
Senior outfielder Blake Crohan injured his shoulder during an at-bat Friday. To adjust for Crohan’s injury, Boudreaux should see time in centerfield, and Briggs Barrios, Andrew Garner and Richard Carthon will split time in the other two outfield positions.
After Crohan, Sean Potkay (.286), Brandon Boudreaux (.250) and Brennan Middleton (.231) are the top-hitting regulars in the Tulane lineup.
