Former Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese State men’s basketball coach E.W. Foy died Saturday in Summit, Mississippi. He was 77.
Foy, who began his coaching career in East Baton Rouge Parish, became the head coach at Southeastern in 1969. In 1972-73, he led the Lions to their first Gulf South Conference title and was named the league’s coach of the year. He had similar success at McNeese from 1974-77, leading the Cowboys to their first Southland Conference title and bringing home top coach accolades.
After more than two decades out of coaching, he returned in 2000 to lead Parklane Academy in McComb, Mississippi. He later coached at Amite School Center in Liberty.
He’s survived by wife Betty Jane, two daughters, a son, two sisters, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation is set for 5-8 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Tuesday at Catchings Funeral Home in Summit, with services scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Terrys Creek Baptist Church in Magnolia.
