Photo provided by Tab Bourgeois --007s '99ers win tourney -- The 007s '99ers made a 4-0 run through bracket play to capture the recent USFA state softball title in Alexandria. The Baton Rouge-based Red Stick Lacrosse U-17 team traveled to Mandeville and won the championship at the High School B Division of the Big Easy Classic held at Pelican Park in Mandeville on June 28-29.

The team ended the tournament with a 6-0 record, beating programs from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Georgia while outscoring their opponents 42-9.

The team is made up of players from Catholic High, Central, Dutchtown and the Lafayette Hurricanes, with volunteer coaches from Catholic High, Central and LSU.

The team’s defense, led by goalie Sammy Latino, allowed nine goals over in six tournament games. Rivers King, Tanner Shaddox, Justin David and Cody Cazes led the Red Stick offense. Cazes had the first hat trick of his career Sunday.

In addition to the U-17 championship, Red Stick’s U-13 squad came out third in its division, while the U-15 squad won the consolation bracket in their division.

This was the second championship for Red Stick Lacrosse in its two-year history. Last year, the U-13 squad won the Georgia Southern Shootout in Gainesville, Georgia.

The Red Stick program next travels to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Steel City Showcase July 12-13.


HEBERTS FIRST IN DUMAS TOURNAMENT: In Baker, Debbie and Paul Hebert had a 31 to win the Dumas Golf Course two-player best-ball nine-hole tournament Tuesday in the BREC golf league. Pat Milton and Greg Crowel were tied for second with a 32 along with Jason Miller and Greg Barthe.

Miller and Barthe’s 34 gross score shared first with Milton and Crowel. The Heberts were third with a 36.

Pat Milton won the individual gross at 35. Miller and Crowell tied for second at 36.


007 ’99ers win 16-under fastpitch: The 007 ’99ers captured the 16U United States Fastpitch Association state softball title.

Team members were Abbey Andermann, Callie Venable, Madison Averett, Baylee Bourgeois, Ali McCoy, Kennedy Carruth, Hannah Martin, Abby McKey, Kamryn Pence, Blayne Pence and Ryann Bizette. Coaches were Tab Bourgeois and Dut Bizette.


Westide Black All-stars earn thrid championship: The 8-year-old Westside Black All-Star team claimed their third championship at the Cal Ripken Central Division state tournament this past weekend in Luling. The team took three other championships this all-star season — the Tchefuncte River Shoot Out June 7-8 in Madisonville, the Father’s Day Class in Addis June 12-15, and the Cal Ripken District Tournament in Addis June 19-22.

Connor Hebert was selected Cal Ripken Central Division State Tournament MVP.

Team members included Ryland Merrick, John Maciasz, Carson Hurdle, Ryder Loup, Aidan Marcum, Tyler Morris, Jacob Pinsonat, Luke Patrick, Connor Kimball, Hebert and Cade David.

Coaches for the team are Drew Maciasz, Clayton Hurdle, Randall Loup and Kevin Kimball.

The Westside Red Allstar team, which had players from West Baton Rouge Parish and Pointe Coupee areas, placed second at the Ripken Central state tournament.
