Officials from the Fore!Kids Foundation on Thursday presented to 28 children’s charities $265,000, part of the $1.8 million it raised through the PGA Tour’s annual stop in New Orleans and other fundraising endeavors last year.

During an event at St. Michael Special School in New Orleans, the group handed out the checks to representatives of the organizations. The bulk of the $1.8 million already has been distributed to charities in and around south Louisiana, including the metro Baton Rouge area.

In addition to staging the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the Fore!Kids Foundation annually holds a pro-am in Baton Rouge in conjunction with the PGA Tour’s $6.9 million tournament.

“Thanks to the support of the Zurich Insurance Group, our fans, tournament volunteers, corporate supporters and Tour pros, the Fore!Kids Foundation was able to significantly increase our cash contributions this year,” Fore!Kids CEO Steve Worthy said.

This year, five charity partners received a total of $700,000. They are Educare New Orleans, First Tee of Greater New Orleans, Ochsner Hospital for Children, Lighthouse Louisiana and Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Five other organizations shared $500,000. Those recipients were Bayou District Foundation, Project Lead the Way, St. Michael Special School, Louisiana Hospitality Foundation and St. Bernard Project.
