AThe Baton Rouge Capitals, who have split their first two matches against the New Orleans Jesters in a four-game season series, look to take the upper hand when they visit their rivals for a 7 p.m. match Wednesday at Pan American Stadium.
Baton Rouge beat the Jesters 1-0 at Christian Life Academy on June 29 after falling 2-1 at New Orleans four days earlier.
Not only can the Capitals (6-5-1) take a 2-1 lead in the season series, but a victory Wednesday would push the Premier Development League soccer club ahead of New Orleans (6-5-2) for third place in the Mid-South Division standings.
Baton Rouge has a 5-1-1 mark since staggering to a 1-4 start on the heels of winning the Southern Conference last year.
A big reason for the recent success is Achille Campeon, who gave the Capitals a 1-0 victory Saturday at Nashville after scoring the lone goal of Baton Rouge’s victory over the Jesters in its previous match.
Wednesday’s game continues a three-game road swing, as the Capitals play at Mississippi on Saturday before finishing the regular season with home matches against West Texas on July 17 and New Orleans on July 23.
