LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette unveiled the 2011-12 season schedules for Ragin’ Cajuns men’s and women’s basketball on Wednesday.

The men’s basketball schedule is highlighted by two in-season tournaments: the San Francisco Hilltop Challenge and the Beryl Shipley Classic at the Cajundome. ULL also has a Thanksgiving weekend trip featuring games with Duquesne and Kent State, and hosts Central Florida at the Cajundome for the first time since February 1992.

“We worked hard to put together an attractive schedule, and it’s a product of the time and effort coach Neil Hardin put forth during this six-month process,” men’s basketball coach Bob Marlin said. “Opening the season in San Francisco will be a great experience for a young team, then returning home for the Beryl Shipley Classic is a fantastic way to welcome our fans back to the Cajundome.

“We would have preferred to schedule more regional games, but in this day of college basketball it’s not an easy task.”

The women’s basketball schedule is highlighted by a West Coast trip in November to face UC Riverside and San Diego, and an East Coast trip in December. The Cajuns are also scheduled to visit SEC-foe Mississippi State and host Conference USA-member Tulane in December.

“We have a challenging schedule featuring an SEC opponent (Mississippi State) and a trip to the West Coast early in the year,” women’s basketball coach Errol Rogers said. “We also face four teams that were in the NCAA Tournament along with several teams that were in other postseason tournaments. Overall, it’s a good schedule. and we are going to have to be ready to play.”

Five doubleheaders featuring the UL men and women at the Cajundome are on tap, the first coming on New Year’s Eve against Florida Atlantic. Doubleheaders are also scheduled for Jan. 14, Jan. 25, Feb. 11 and Feb. 25.

Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Ragin’ Cajuns Ticket Office at (337) 851-2011.
