DENTON, Texas — Cody Sokol threw five touchdown passes as Louisiana Tech rolled over North Texas 42-21 at Apogee Stadium on Thursday night.
Sokol connected with eight different receivers to claim Tech’s first Conference USA victory of the season.
The senior was 20-for-31 for 243 yards, including two touchdown passes to Paul Turner, as Tech (2-1, 1-0 C-USA) never trailed North Texas (1-2, 0-1).
Turner ended the night with three receptions for 34 yards, while Trent Taylor reeled in five receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Receiver Carlos Henderson caught a team-high six passes for 40 yards in his first action of the season. Hunter Lee added three catches for 52 yards and a score.
Kenneth Dixon ran 19 timesfor 75 yards and a touchdown.
NO. 25 BYU 33, HOUSTON 25: In Provo, Utah, Taysom Hill threw for 200 yards and a touchdown while running for 160 yards and another score, and BYU beat Houston.
Jamaal Williams rushed for 139 yards and two TDs for BYU, which has won its opening three games for the first time since 2008.
The Cougars moved into the rankings after a 41-7 victory over Texas last weekend.
BYU jumped out to a 23-0 lead in the first half, but the Cougars (1-2) rallied to narrow the deficit to 23-15 at halftime.
Houston’s John O’Korn passed for 307 yards and three touchdowns, including a 45-yard desperation heave to Daniel Spencer as time ran out in the first half. Deontay Greenberry caught a pair of O’Korn’s touchdowns.
