COLONELS HOLD FIRST SCRIMMAGE: In Thibodaux, Nicholls State’s defense got the upper hand in the team’s Saturday scrimmage at John L. Guidry Stadium.

The defense surrendered two touchdowns and allowed only six plays of 10 yards or longer. The defense also had a few sacks and capped the final session with an interception by safety T.J. Lumar.

In red zone drills, Marcus Washington scored on a 6-yard reception from Hayden Cardiff. On the next possession, defensive lineman Keithen English recovered a fumble to set up Beaux Hebert’s 19-yard scoring strike to Nick Scelfo.

After each red zone possession, the Colonels attempted field goals from various distances. After missing on a 23-yarder, Andrew Dolan hit his next three from 33, 40 and 45 yards. Christian Prudhomme converted on 27- and 36-yarders.

In 7-on-7 drills, the defense got back-to-back interceptions by Lumar and Jordan Hanberry.

In the third-down plays, the offense picked up four first downs, and linebacker Tyler Harrington had a sack before Lumar intercepted an Hebert pass that was intended for Xavier Marcus.

The Colonels head into their final week of spring practice, which will conclude with a Saturday scrimmage at 11 a.m.
