Peggy Berniard successfully defended her title at the Santa Maria Ladies Golf Association tournament Sept. 28 and Oct. 1 at Santa Maria Golf Course. Berniard shot rounds of 84 and 85 to hold off all challengers.

Pat Morgan won the low net division with a two-day net score of 142.

Reba Wheeler took first in second flight. Emmie Denham claimed low net honors in the second flight.

RABY CAPTURES HOWELL PARK TOURNAMENT: Donald Raby had the low front nine, low back nine and low 18-hole score at the Howell Park weekly Sunday tournament.

Raby had a 2-under-par 34 on the front nine, a 1-under 35 on the back nine and a 3-under 69 over 18 holes.

Willis Dewy and David Hoffman each shot 75s to finish second over 18 holes.

PELICAN POINT MGA SHAMBLE WINNERS NAMED: The team of Bubba Worsham, Dwayne Landry and Any Diez was the gross winner in the championship flight of the Pelican Point MGA shamble.

Keith Albert, Richard Young and Jeff Powell were the net winners in the championship flight.

The team of Ryan Schulz, Shawn Kjar and Pat Matherne had the runner-up gross score in the championship flight, while Ricky Carter, Steve Martin and Jason Adams had the runner-up net score in the championship flight.

Mark Bridges, Jimmy Anderson and Chester Campbell had the winning gross score in the first flight, followed by Jim Whiddon, David Amedee and Russell Williams.

Kevin Harrison, Miles Holley and Jeff Wiley had the top net score in the first flight; Allen Walker, Curtis Domingue and Bill Murphy were second.

LOUISIANA STATE SINGLES CHAMPIONS CROWNED: Ricky Richard of Church Point went 5-0 to win the Class A men’s title and tournament championship at the Louisiana state singles horseshoe pitching championships last week at Moose Lodge in Shreveport.

Charles Savoy of Jennings was second in Class A, followed by Edward Jolley of Monroe.

Pat Pertuit of Marrero defeated Marie Stump of Shreveport in a 40-shoe playoff to claim the Class A women’s title and tournament championship. Linda Dodson of Morgan City was third.

Tim Gilmore of Bayou Vista won the Class A Elders title, followed by Doug McDaniel and Jack Caudle of Shreveport.

Burnie Willliams of Morgan City won a 40-shoe playoff over A.J. Duplantier of Harahan to take the Class B men’s title, while Larry Pertuit of Marerro was third.

Steve Rotach of Minden topped J.R. Morse of Shreveport in a 40-shoe playoff to win the Class C men’s title, while Artie McMullen of Monroe finished third.

Lake Charles’ Greg Smith defeated Shreveport’s Darron Adams in a 40-shoe playoff to claim the Class D men’s crown, while Ron Smith of Lake Charles was third.

Kyle Milam of Keithville won the Class E men’s title, followed by Robert Mayes and Robert Kraus of Shreveport.

Rhonda Smith of Lake Charles captured the Class B women’s title, followed by Ronnie Ellis of Shreveport and Nancy Woods of Monroe.

Stonewall’s Belinda McClain took the Class C women’s title, while Cheryl Matt of Lake Charles was second and Mabeth Johnson of Shreveport finished third.

Monroe’s Erica Noblitt won the Class D women’s title, followed by Gwen Pinnick of Gloster and Lacey Buccola of Shreveport.
