Zephyrs 5, Storm Chasers 3
Papillion, Nebraska — The New Orleans Zephyrs turned to veteran pitcher Brad Penny and he delivered six sharp innings and notched his first victory. The Z’s offense scored three first inning runs and defeated Omaha 5-3 on Friday.
Penny in his second start allowed two runs on seven hits and had five strikeouts. He didn’t allow a run until the sixth inning when the Chasers nicked him for two runs on three hits.
The Zephyrs added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go ahead 5-0. Mark Canha led the offense with three hits, scored a pair of runs and drove in a run.
The Z’s have won three consecutive and remain in second place and a game back of first-place Nashville.
The Z’s have scored 19 runs in the first two games series and 10 of the runs have scored with two outs. The Zephyrs snapped a run of 10 consecutive games with a home run.
The Zephyrs and Storm Chasers play again Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
