White Castle High won the Class 1A boys basketball title last spring, while Scotlandville High in 5A and Southern Lab in 1A were boys runners-up.

The two schools help lead a large contingent of teams set to open the basketball regular season on Monday just like other teams in Classes 5A to 1A across the state.

Scotlandville hosts St. Paul’s for a single game, while White Castle is one of seven teams hosting Thanksgiving holiday tournaments. Southern Lab plays St. Amant at Denham Springs’ Grady Hornsby Classic.

Monday’s schedule includes six single games, five boys basketball tournaments and two girls basketball tournaments.

The Catholic High Invitational, Ascension Catholic’s Louis Frey Tournament, the Grady Hornsby Classic at DSHS, the White Castle Tournament and the Woodlawn Shootout are boys tournaments.

Istrouma’s Inner City Classic and Catholic-Pointe Coupee’s Father Dugas Thanksgiving Classic are the girls tournaments.

Action at the Catholic High Invitational begins at 3:30 p.m. with a diverse group of teams, including 1A Christian and Pointe Coupee Central, 2A Episcopal and 3A Glen Oaks set to compete. Ascension Catholic’s Frey tourney welcomes 4A Plaquemine, 3A St. James, 2A French Settlement and Class B Hosanna Christian starting at 4 p.m.

The Hornsby Classic at DSHS counts as single games for teams involved. Dutchtown meets Walker at 5:30 p.m. and St. Amant plays Southern Lab at 7.

Class 4A Istrouma, 5A Thibodaux, 4A Ellender and 3A Donaldsonville are among the teams set to join White Castle at its tourney, which begins at 4 p.m. The Woodlawn Shootout starts 3 p.m. and includes 5A H.L. Bourgeois, 4A Helen Cox, 2A St. Helena Central. Finals are all the boys tournaments are set for Wednesday.

The Dugas Thanksgiving Classic at CHSPC and Istrouma’s Inner City Classic have round-robin formats. There will be four games at CHSPC in New Roads each day and five games at Istrouma each day. Games begin at 2:30 p.m. at Catholic-PC and 4 at Istrouma.

Catholic-PC welcomes a diverse field that includes 1A Ascension Catholic, 2A Episcopal, 5A St. Amant, 5A Fontainebleau and 1A Metairie Park Country Day. The Inner City field includes 5A Scotlandville, 4A Broadmoor, 3A Glen Oaks, 1A Southern Lab and 2A Capitol.
