Denham Springs rallies over Zachary _lowres

All but two LHSAA sports have entered their respective postseasons, and that is about to change.

The LHSAA kicks off its baseball playoffs by announcing the pairings for Class 5A teams Sunday afternoon. Playoff teams in the other six classes will be finalized Tuesday.

Set for Friday and Saturday are the LHSAA’s State Gymnastics meet and Fast Pitch 56 softball tournament. State champions in softball, gymastics and tennis also will be crowned while teams in track and golf are scheduled to compete on the regional level.

“Right now we’re pretty much locked into the No. 2 seed, and it looks like we’ll play Alexandria Senior High,” Catholic baseball coach Brad Bass said. “At least that’s what it looks like before the rest of the games are reported. It changed a lot over the last few days.”

Third-seeded Zachary (25-7) and No. 7 Denham Springs (22-7) area teams seeded in the unofficial top 10. Live Oak (20-10), the No. 12 seed, is the only other area team currently in line to host a first-round 5A game.

“We’ve got some other places we check and ours (ranking) has changed (Saturday),” DSHS coach Mark Carroll said. “It looked like we’d play (District 4-5A rival) Central, and now it looks like its Northshore, a 20-win team and a district champion.

“There are some games being played in north Louisiana (Saturday) that could move it around some more. We’ll see.”

Here’s a breakdown on the other events:
