Silliman Institute’s Zach Kelly received the 2016 Mississippi Association of Independent Schools’ Don Souder Award, given each year to the organization’s top male and female student-athletes.

Kelly, who led the Wildcats to the MAIS Class 3A football title last fall as a quarterback, made the MAIS all-star teams for football and baseball. The Wildcats beat Indianola Academy to win the football title last fall. Silliman played Cathedral Catholic in Game 1 of the MAIS best-of-three games series Monday in Natchez.

MAIS Director Les Triplett presented Kelly with the Souder Award during Silliman’s commencement ceremony last Friday. Kelly graduated with a 4.0 GPA and scored a 32 on the ACT. He is set to play football at Princeton.

Kelly is the first Silliman athlete to win the award. The female winner has not been announced.
