VILLE PLATTE — Troy Matte scored on a 1-yard run and threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Jacques Wimberly as fifth-ranked Church Point scored 27 points in the second half to take a 34-14 victory over Ville Platte in District 5-3A play Friday night.
Church Point (9-0, 4-0) will take on undefeated and sixth-ranked Livonia next week for the district title.
Frederick Williams did the heavy lifting on the ground for Church Point, running for 113 yards on eight carries — including an 11-yard scoring run. Deon Monroe added a 1-yard scoring run and Christian Veronie had a 15-yard run during the second-half rally.
Vondarius Freeman scored on an 8-yard run and Rodricas Fontenot threw a 12-yard TD pass to Terese Thomas for Ville Platte (3-6, 2-2).
VERMILION CATHOLIC 23, HANSON MEMORIAL 0: In Franklin, Tyler Derouen ran for a pair of scores as Vermilion Catholic, the third-ranked team in Class 1A, improved to 8-1.
Derouen scored on runs of 2 and 5 yards and quarterback Hunter Frith tossed a 42-yard scoring pass to Devron Constintine. Frith completed 26 of 37 passes for 324 yards. The Eagles’ other score came when William Noegel tackled Hanson’s Britt Young in the end zone for a safety.
LIVONIA 52, PINE PRAIRIE 2: In Livonia, Cee Jay Powell threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as sixth-ranked Livonia (8-0, 4-0) set up a showdown with fifth-ranked Church Point for the District 5-3A title next week.
Powell threw a 79 and 32-yard TD passes to Stephen Guidry and ran for a 60-yard score as Livonia scored 45 points in the first half.
Malcolm Dedrick rushed for 129 yards on 15 carries and scored on runs of 5 and 8 yards to round out the scoring for the Wildcats.
NOTRE DAME 42, NORTH VERMILION 7: In Maurice, Brad Stoma tossed a pair of TD passes and Damon Comeaux ran for two as Notre Dame, the ninth-ranked team in Class 3A, dominated North Vermilion (3-6, 2-2) in District 6-3A. Notre Dame (7-2, 4-0) will play Kaplan next week for the district title.
Stoma hit Boedy Borill with 9- and 19-yard scoring passes while Comeaux, who finished with 108 yards on 10 carries, scored on runs of 15 and 43-yard runs. Lance Bertrand added a 17-yard TD run and Sam Hoffpauir wrapped up the scoring with a 1-yard run.
The Pioneer defense did its part, holding North Vermilion to 97 yards and picking off two passes.
RAYNE 41, BEAU CHENE 21: In Arnaudville, Deontrey Wilridge ran for 253 yards and two touchdowns and John Michael Besse rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns as Rayne (7-2) improved to 3-2 in District 4-4A.
Wilridge scored on runs of 18 and 2 yards and Besse had 1, 9 and 23-yard touchdown runs as the Wolves gashed the Beau Chene defense for 491 yards.
Savion Broussard led the offense for Beau Chene (3-6, 1-4) with 52 and 2-yard scoring runs. Grant Abshire scored the other Gator TD on a 71-yard kickoff return.
ST. EDMUND 58, FALSE RIVER ACADEMY 0: In Eunice, Zach LaFleur ran for 192 yards on 28 carries and scored four touchdowns as St. Edmund (5-3) upped its record to 3-0 in District 5-1A.
The Blue Jays will square off with Sacred Heart of Ville Platte next week for the district title.
LaFleur scored on a pair of 10-yard runs and 1 and 2-yard carries as the Blue Jays jumped out to a 42-0 lead in the first half and cruised to the shutout win over False River (3-5, 1-2). Drew Brown threw an 18-yard scoring pass to William Chachere and an 11-yarder to Drake Brunet as St. Eds racked up 459 yards of offense while holding False River to 31 yards.
WESTMINSTER 34, JEANERETTE 26: In Jeanerette, Westminster Christian Academy scored the last 21 points to rally past Jeanerette and earn their first victory of the season.
Ken Jones, who ran for 111 yards on only five carries, scored on runs of 69 and 30 yards for the Crusaders. Brandon Vidrine added 10 and 1-yard TD runs as Westminster (1-8, 1-3) ran for 221 yards.
Jeanerette’s Darien Kiel scored on 1 and 28 yard runs and Ahmad Mitchell ran for 3 and 57-yard scores. Jeanerette dropped to 2-7 and 1-3 in District 5-2A.
