The Buzz: Non-district game. Brother Martin is ranked fifth among large schools in The New Orleans Advocate Super 10 and sixth in Class 5A by the LSWA. The Crusaders lost a three-touchdown lead entering the fourth quarter last week. Sulphur of District 3-5A is also coming off a loss to the defending 5A state champions, snapping a three-game winning streak.

Carver (4-1)

at St. Thomas Aquinas (5-0)

The Buzz: Non-district game. Carver of District 9-4A is coming off its first loss of the season. St. Thomas Aquinas of District 7-2A is ranked sixth in Class 2A by the LSWA. The Falcons return 18 starters from their 2014 squad which advanced to the Division III quarterfinals.

Covenant Christian (1-4)

at Ridgewood (1-3, 1-0)

Last week: Covenant Christian lost to Catholic – P.C. 38-20; Ridgewood did not play (bye)

Last season: Covenant Christian won by forfeit

The Buzz: District 8-1A game. Last year, Ridgewood forfeited its game against Covenant Christian due to a shortage of healthy players.

Covington (3-2, 1-1)

at St. Paul’s (4-1, 2-0)

Last week: Covington beat Slidell 54-21; St. Paul’s beat Hammond 51-8

Last season: St. Paul’s won 27-10

The Buzz: District 6-5A game. Covington scored a season-high 54 points last week, the team’s higher point total since before 2009. St. Paul’s is ranked eighth among large schools in The New Orleans Advocate Super 10. The Wolves have outscored their opponents 99-15 in two district games this season.

Crescent City (1-4)

at Varnado (2-3)

Last week: Crescent City beat Cohen 12-6; Varnado lost to South Plaquemines 50-9

The Buzz: District 8-1A game. Last week, Crescent City notched its first win under interim head coach Sean Dumas, who took over for Nick Walker after the team’s 0-3 start. Varnado is in the midst of a three-game losing skid in which the team has been outscored 106-43.

East St. John (0-5, 0-2)

at Destrehan (5-0, 2-0)

Last week: East St. John lost to Thibodaux, 45-32

Last season: Destrehan won 28-14 in the regular season and 68-14 in second round of 5A playoffs.

The Buzz: District 7-5A game. East St. John remains in search of its first win under coach Alden Foster. Former Destrehan quarterback Marquise Darensbourg made his first start of the season last week against Thibodaux and will see his former team for the first time Friday. Destrehan is ranked second among large schools in The New Orleans Advocate Super 10 and fourth in Class 5A by the LSWA.

Fisher (3-2) at Haynes (4-1)

Last week: Fisher beat Grace King, 27-17; Haynes beat Pearl River 27-14

Last season: Did not play

The Buzz: District 8-2A game. These teams last met in the regular season back in 2012 when Fisher won 37-9. Haynes has won three consecutive games and has averaged 32.0 per game in those victories.

Fontainebleau (3-2, 1-1)

Last week: Fontainebleau beat Northshore 36-26; Hammond lost to St. Paul’s, 51-8

Last season: Fontainebleau won 35-20

The Buzz: District 6-5A game. Fontainebleau RB Brandon Akkawi has 729 rushing yards and 7 TDs, including 242 yards and 3 TDs last week. Hammond is off to its worst start since 2012, when the team began 0-4.

Last week: Grace King lost to Fisher 27-17; Albany beat North Central 56-8

The Buzz: Non-district game. Grace King of District 8-5A has dropped six consecutive games dating back to the 2014 season. Albany of District 7-3A is averaging 50.0 points per game and has two shutouts.

The Buzz: District 7-5A game. Hahnville’s 40-point loss to St. Thomas More was the biggest margin of defeat in the Nick Saltaformaggio era. It also marked Hahnville’s first three-game losing streak under Salt. Terrebonne is also in the midst of a three-game losing skid.

The Buzz: District 9-5A game. This is a rematch of the 2014 Division I state title game in which Jesuit captured its first state championship in more than five decades. It’s also the second-ever meeting between Curtis and Jesuit. The Patriots dropped their Catholic League opener against Brother Martin, 40-37, in overtime.

KIPP (1-4, 0-2)

at De La Salle (5-0, 2-0)

The Buzz: District 9-3A game. KIPP has dropped four straight since its season-opening win against KIPP Houston. De La Salle is ranked fourth among small schools in The New Orleans Advocate Super 10 and second in Class 3A by the LSWA. De La Salle’s homecoming. Cavs wide receiver Christian Booker, a Nicholls State commit, will wear No. 11 instead of No. 7 to honor injured teammate Quincy Cage.

Landry-Walker rebounded from its district-opening loss to Chalmette with a shutout of Bonnabel, the Bucs’ first since a 41-0 win over now-defunct Miller-McCoy on Sept. 12, 2014. Landry-Walker should have junior QB Keytaon Thompson back from his ankle injury. Ehret, ranked seventh among large schools in The New Orleans Advocate Super 10, has opened league play with back-to-back shutouts and has three on the season.

The Buzz: District 8-4A game. This is the first-ever regular-season meeting between Loranger and Lakeshore. Lakeshore’s shutout of Jewel Sumner was the team’s first since Sept. 25, 2010 against Thomas Jefferson.

The Buzz: District 9-3A game. Lusher has dropped two in a row since starting district play and has been outscored 61-22. McMain has lost five in a row to open the season and six straight dating to 2014. The Mustangs’ 48-0 loss to De La Salle marked their first shutout since Oct. 25, 2013 against St. Charles.
