The Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm Outdoor Track and Field meet for Classes 2A and 1A was postponed after just two running events because of inclimate weather Friday night.
The meet will resume with the sprint events at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Action in Classes 5A, 4A and 3A will start as scheduled: field events at 10:45 a.m. and running events at 3:30 p.m.
“They talked to the National Weather Service, and this is supposed to keep up until 4 o’clock in the morning,” LHSAA Executive Director Kenny Henderson said. “You just can’t keep everybody here that long. With the outlook being the way it is, the decision was made to call it a night and come back in the morning and pick up right where we left off.
“It’s just going to be much different. I think the big concern is going to be what are some of these schools going to do with the kids. If they’re from north Louisiana or southwest Louisiana, they were planning to go home tonight. They’ve got to try and make some kind of arrangements. I’m not sure what the outcome of the actual competition will be or who’s going to run. This definitely could affect that.”
