Second-seeded Scotlandville (33-2) overpowered No. 10 St. Augustine 71-58 to punch its ticket to a seventh consecutive Class 5A semifinal berth.
Senior post player Garrick Green was dominant leading Scotlandville with 22 points, 21 rebounds and four blocks. Javonte Smart tallied 22 points and six assists.
For St. Augustine (24-7), the final result was only its second home playoff loss in school history.
“God gets all the glory because we’ve been through a lot this year,” Scotlandville coach Carlos Sample said. “We’re just blessed, man, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Scotlandville advances to the Top 28 in Lake Charles next week where it will face No. 11 Ouachita Parish in the semifinals.
Caleb Daniels and Devante Jones carried the Purple Knight attack for most of the night with a combined 41 points, but St. Aug struggled to find scoring in other places to help its veteran duo.
EAST ASCENSION 71, CENTRAL LAFOURCHE 64: The 13th-seeded Spartans staged a fourth-quarter rally to overcome No. 21 Central Lafourche in Class 5A.
Central Lafourche (21-10) led 49-42 after three quarters, but East Ascension (30-6) rallied outscoring the Trojans 29-15 in the closing quarter.
East Ascension’s Le’Aaron Cain was the leader scoring a game-high 23. Kove Ruffin (12) and Bilal Frank (10) also hit double figures.
The Trojans’ Calvin Bentley scored 18 while Anfernee Poindexter and Lionel Batiste scored 11 apiece.
East Ascension moves into semifinal play to face No. 1 Natchitoches Central, which defeated Bourgeois 85-58.
SOUTHERN LAB 76, GRAMBLING 56: In Class 1A action, third-seeded Southern Lab (25-7) built a 28-19 halftime advantage, and rolled to a quarterfinal win at Grambling (23-9).
Lab had three players in double figures – Dexter Dennis (19), Tyreon Payne (16) and Azharen Ernest (12). Grambling got 26 from Kaedrick Williams, and 10 from Tylan Dean. Next up, Lab advances to the Top 28 and will face No. 10 Tensas, which upset second-seeded Northwood 64-57.
NORTH CADDO 69, EPISCOPAL 47: The fifth-seeded Rebels took control early and coasted in the second half of their Class 2A quarterfinal win at North Caddo.
North Caddo (29-5) built a 32-17 halftime lead, and expanded it to 58-28 entering the fourth quarter. A closing flourish by No. 5 Episcopal (30-5) came too late.
Robert Williams, a 6-foot-8 senior forward, led the Rebels with 30 points. Detavious Easter and Christavious Thomas each added 10 points.
Episcopal got 23 points from Chris Beckman, Jr. and 9 from Kevin Tripeaux.
ST. THOMAS MORE 53, PLAQUEMINE 52, OT: The top-seeded Cougars trailed by eight points with less than two minutes to play, but rallied beat No. 9 Plaquemine in overtime.
Nate Cox ignited an 8-0 closing for for STM (33-7) with his fourth 3-pointer. Plaquemine (24-7) was 1-of-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and 6-for-23 overall.
A.U. Riley scored 16 for STM while Devante Benjamin had 14. Keandre Randall led Plaquemine with 18 points.
