University High defensive back-wide receiver Malik Antoine has committed to Stanford’s 2016 signing class.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Antoine is projected as a cornerback for the Cardinal. He visited Stanford in February.

“I just couldn’t pass up a school that excels in academics and athletics the way Stanford does,” Antoine said. “When I went out there to visit, I got to meet with the coaches. I believe they’ll help me take my game to a higher level. I look forward to being part of the program.”

Antoine garnered All-Metro honors as a junior with 43 tackles, seven pass breakups and three interceptions to help the Cubs win the Division II select state title during his junior season.

Vanderbilt, California and Oklahoma State were the Antoine’s other finalists. He has met the NCAA’s academic qualifying standards and plans to major in chemical engineering.

“Now I can concentrate on working to get better and helping my team be the best it can be next year,” Antoine said.
