Karli Perque had a lights-out performance and the Cabrini bats finally woke up in the eighth inning as No. 20 seed Cabrini upset No. 13 Tioga 5-0 in the first round of the Class 4A softball playoffs on Tuesday.

Perque went the distance, throwing a no-hitter and striking out a season-high 18 batters. The junior walked just one batter.

“She had an outstanding game,” Cabrini coach Shannon Austin said. “She did a great job of hitting her spots. When they put the ball in play, our defense backed her up.”

Cabrini (13-10) will travel to face No. 4 Lakeshore in the second round at 5 p.m. Friday.

The game was scoreless through seven innings.

Alexis Gros came through with a two-run triple in the seventh and Christie Runnels also had an RBI.

Gros finished 2-for-3 and Runnels was 2-for-4.

“We hit the ball well all game, but we finally pieced some hits together in the eighth,” Austin said.

Mount Carmel 10, H.L. Bourgeois 0: The Cubs (21-3) had little trouble in their playoff opener, needing just five innings to get past the Lady Braves in the 5A playoffs.

Alaina Guarino, Samantha Dares and Jordyn Perkins all had home runs.

Mount Carmel, the No. 2 seed, will travel to play No. 18 Ponchatoula in the second round.

Barbe 12, Fontainebleau 2: Barbe led 5-1 after four, then broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning to advance to the second round of the 5A playoffs.

Alivia Soto had two hits to lead Fontainebleau. Alexis Fremin and Brittney Freeman had RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Hahnville 3, St. Joseph’s 2: The Tigers reached the second round of the 5A playoffs.

Hahnville (22-8), the No. 10 seed after winning the District 7-5A title, will travel to play No. 7 Dutchtown in the second round.

Hahnville and Dutchtown split a pair of games this season, with Hahnville winning the first one 9-7 and losing the second one 8-4.

Assumption 6, Ursuline 2: Assumption eliminated Ursuline in the opening round of the 4A playoffs and will travel to play Benton in the second round.

ACADEMY OF OUR LADY 10, Franklin Parish 0: AOL, the No. 10 seed, blanked No. 23 Franklin Parish at Harvey Playground and will host No. 26 Bolton in the second round. Bolton stunned No. 7 DeRidder 9-4 in the first round.

John Curtis 10, Iowa 0: The Patriots, the top seed in 3A, breezed past visiting Iowa.

Curtis, going for its fourth straight title and second straight in 3A, will host Vidalia in the second round.
