Second-seeded St. Thomas More scored seven runs in the final inning to notch a surprisingly easy 12-2 five-inning victory over St. Michael the Archangel in a Class 4A semifinal that helped conclude Thursday’s action at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Baseball tournament at McMurry Park.

Hogan Harris (6-1) allowed just two hits and struck out six, also working around six walks and two hit batters for the Cougars (29-8). STM faces District 5-4A rival Teurlings Catholic (24-9), the No. 5 seed in Saturday’s title game set for 2 p.m.

Brennan Breaux ended it with a two RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Mason Templet had a two-RBI double for the winners. Christopher Reid had both hits, including an RBI double for sixth-seeded St. Michael (23-11).

Teurlings Catholic jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in Thursday’s Class 4A, semifinal.

The five-time state baseball champion put two runs in the first and added three more in the third as the No. 5 seed cruised to a 16-1 victory over No. 1-seed Tioga on Field 41 in McMurry Park.

Teurlings Catholic will face the winner of Thursday’s other semifinal between No. 2 St. Thomas More and No. 6 St. Michael the Archangel in Saturday’s title game.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Rebels advance to the championship game for the first time since 2012 when Teurlings Catholic rolled Holy Cross 11-1 to win the title.

Class B

The No. 5 Maurepas baseball team's season ended Thursday night when ninth-seeded Fairview shut out the Wolves in a 4-0 victory in the Class B semifinals of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Baseball tournament at McMurry Park.

Fairview pitcher Hunter Dowies pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five batters in the outing.

The Wolves will take on No. 2 Florien in the state championship game Saturday at noon on Field #40 at McMurry Park.
