The buzz: Covington spotted St. Augustine a 20-0 lead before rallying to tie the game before halftime. The teams were tied at 27 late in the game before the Purple Knights pulled away. Northshore lost two fumbles and was penalized for more than 80 yards in the fourth quarter last week.
Hammond (1-2) at Fontainebleau (2-1)
Last week: Fontainebleau lost to Ehret 34-8; Hammond beat Cohen 63-0.
Last year: Hammond won 21-20.
The buzz: Neither team is ranked in any poll. Fontainebleau struggled to move the ball against Ehret’s stout defense last week, finishing with 32 yards rushing and 89 yards passing.
Ponchatoula (3-0) at Mandeville (1-2)

The Buzz: Hahnville is ranked No. 10 in Class 5A and No. 4 in The Advocate’s Large School’s Super 10. Hahnville has played back-to-back triple overtime games and last year’s game against Thibodaux went into overtime before Hahnville won. Hahnville QB Mike Neal suffered a broken collar bone last week and will miss six to eight weeks.
Terrebonne (2-1) at Destrehan (3-0)
Last week: Terrebonne beat Ellender 44-28; Destrehan beat Dutchtown 20-10.

The Buzz: Destrehan is ranked No. 2 in Class 5A and No. 3 in The Advocate’s Large Schools Super 10. The Wildcats had to overcome a rough first half with the play of RB Will Matthews, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Dickerson led the defense with a pair of interceptions.
South Lafourche (1-2) at East St. John (1-2)
Last week: East St. John lost to Curtis 42-13; South Lafourche lost to Shaw 56-15.

The buzz: South Lafourche has allowed more than 50 points twice this season. East St. John is led by LSU commitment Xavier Lewis.

The buzz: Fisher QB Dallas Verrette was 5 of 14 for 73 yards and one touchdown last week. He threw a 21-yard touchdown to Devin Erlinger.

Crescent City (0-2) vs. St. Martin’s (1-2)

The buzz: Desmond McGovern scored a 2-yard touchdown run for St. Martin’s. The Saints also had an interception return and a punt return for a touchdown.
Houma Christian (1-2) at Ecole Classique (0-1)
Last week: Houma Christian beat False River 33-6; Ecole Classique was idle.
Last year: Houma Christian won 35-0.
The buzz: Ecole Classique is playing only District 10-1A opponents this season. Its only game was a lightning-shortened 35-0 loss to Country Day. Houma Christian’s Drake Battaglia has passed for 162 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
Belle Chasse (3-0) at South Terrebonne (3-0)
Last week: Belle Chasse beat Brusly 42-34; South Terrebonne beat Lake Area 56-6.
Last year: Belle Chasse won 61-54.
The buzz: Cardinals and Gators played in a shootout last season. Belle Chasse has revamped its offense and does its damage on the ground now. QB Andrew Hicks leads the area in rushing with 825 yards already on just 49 carries.
Ben Franklin (1-2) vs. Clark (0-3), 3:30 p.m., Pan American
Last week: Ben Franklin lost to St. Martin’s 24-6; Clark lost to St. Thomas Aquinas 47-21
Last year: Clark won 14-8.
The buzz: Falcons have scored just nine total points the past two weeks. They gave up both an interception return and a punt return for a TD last week. The Bulldogs are coming off their best offensive output of the season after scoring just one touchdown in each of its first two games. Koiy Evans threw for 177 yards. Elvis Berry led the defense with 16 tackles and a sack.
Brother Martin (3-0) at East Ascension (2-1)
Last week: Brother Martin beat Franklinton 41-20; East Ascension beat St. Charles 42-35.
Last year: East Ascension beat 35-30.
The buzz: The Crusaders are ranked No. 7 in Advocate’s Large School Super 10 and just outside the LSWA Class 5A Top 10. The RB duo of Jared West (72 carries for 429 yards) and Bruce Jordan-Swilling lead the Crusaders. The Spartans have scored at least 40 points in all three games this season.
Franklinton (2-1) at Bogalusa (0-3)
Last week: Franklinton lost to Brother Martin 41-20; Bogalusa lost to Pine 39-14.
Last year: Franklinton won 41-6.
The buzz: The Demons were ranked No. 7 in The New Orleans Advocate Large School Super 10 before last week’s loss to the Crusaders. QB Michael Wilson leads the Demons offense. The Lumberjacks’ closest loss was 19-12 setback in Week 2 to Class 1A West St. John.
Haynes Academy (2-1) at Christian Life (1-2)
Last week: Haynes lost to Thomas Jefferson 23-6; Christian Life lost to Ascension Catholic 23-12.
Last year: Christian Life won 24-3.
The buzz: The Yellow Jackets managed just 111 yards of offense last week, with almost half of that coming on a 54-yard pass from Charlie Magaw to Connor McGaw. Crusaders have allowed just 12 total points the past two weeks, including 54-0 win over East Iberville in Week 2.
Holy Cross (2-1) at West St. John (2-1)
Last week: Holy Cross beat Chalmette 23-14; West St. John lost to Riverside 44-21.
Last year: Holy Cross won 23-0
The buzz: Class 5A vs. Class 1A matchup. Tigers have plenty of weapons in QB Kyle Schexnayder, RB Tre Turner and WR Michael Chigbu (Georgia commit). Turner, one of state’s top juniors, has rushed for 410 yards. Schexnayder is a threat running and passing (218 rushing, 477 passing). The Rams will need to avoid turnovers, unlike last week when they had five. WSJ is ranked No. 5 in The Advocate’s Small School Super 10.
Jesuit (2-1) at Pensacola, Florida (2-2)
Last week: Jesuit beat Central 35-6; Pensacola lost to Milton (Florida) 31-21.
Last year: Jesuit won 28-7.
The buzz: The Blue Jays are ranked No. 6 6 in the LSWA Class 5A rankings as well as No. 6 in The Advocate’s Large School Super 10. QB Trey LaForge has completed 50 of 73 passes for 597 yards. His main target is Kalija Lipscomb (22 catches for 363 yards).
John Ehret (2-1) at Salmen (0-3)
Last week: Ehret beat Fontainebleau 34-8; Salmen lost to Northshore 28-18.
Last year: Ehret won 21-7.
The buzz: The Patriots’ stingy defense, led by Michael Divinity and Robert Green, has given up just eight points in its two wins, but 33 in its loss to Brother Martin. Caron Baham heads up the offense averaging 44.3 points. Spartans are allowing 33.3 points and scoring just over 15 points per game.
Karr (1-1) vs. Curtis (3-0) Muss Bertolino
Last week: Karr was open; Curtis beat East St. John 42-13.
Last year: Curtis won 38-33
The buzz: The Cougars are ranked No. 9 in The New Orleans Advocate Super 10 and also ninth in LSWA Class 4A rankings. QB Aldon Clark leads the Karr offense, while LSU commit Isaiah Washington heads up the defense. QB Myles Washington and RBs Devon Benn and Dontae Jones pace the Patriots, ranked No. 1 in the small school rankings, No. 1 in 3A and No. 20 nationally.
Lakeshore (1-2) at Chalmette (1-2)
Last week: Lakeshore lost to Slidell 29-14; Chalmette lost to Holy Cross 21-14.
Last year: Chalmette won 21-20.
The buzz: Connor Lambert (261 yards rushing) and QB Dominic Curole leads the Owls offense. FB David Ducre, an LSU commit, paces a Titans team looking to snap a two-game losing streak where they have scored just 14 points.
McDonogh 35 (0-3) vs. Bonnabel (1-2) , Joe Yenni
Last week: McDonogh 35 lost to St. Paul’s 35-27; Bonnabel beat East Jefferson 21-14 in overtime.
Last year: McDonogh 35 won 34-14.
The buzz: The Roneagles may be the area’s best winless teams, losing a lead against St. Aug in opener and losing in overtime to Lutcher in Week 2. QB Sidney Wilson, RB Darius May and WR Darius Williams lead the offense, while DL Sci Martin heads up the offense. The Bruins rallied from a 14-0 deficit last week to beat rival East Jefferson. QB Semaj Franklin leads the offense for Bonnabel, which has already equaled its win total from last season.
McMain (2-1) at Jeanerette (1-2)
Last week: McMain beat Franklin 20-0; Jeanerette lost to Capitol 32-22.
Last year: McMain won 56-6.
The buzz: After giving up 47 points in opener to Newman, Mustangs have allowed just 13 points in last two weeks, including last week’s shutout. It was their first shutout since blanking Clark in Week 5 last season. Darnell Williams threw two TD passes in the victory.
Miller-McCoy (0-3) at St. Charles (2-1)
Last week: Miller-McCoy didn’t play; St. Charles lost to East Ascension 42-35.
The buzz: Millet-McCoy had to forfeit last week’s game against Helen Cox after a brawl in Week 2 vs. Landry-Walker left all but 10 players suspended. Lions allowed 36 points per game in two games it played. The Comets, ranked No. 4 in Small School Super 10, fell last week after a huge win over East Jefferson in Week 2. The SC offense, led by RB Erron Lewis, is averaging just over 38 points in three games.
Rummel (3-0) at Catholic (3-0)
Last week: Rummel beat Acadiana 34-9; Catholic beat Denham Springs 35-13.
Last year: Rummel won 32-7.
The buzz: Raiders have won nine straight games dating to last season. RB Devin Hutton and Maurice Bailey have been a load for opponents, while QB Chase Fourcade can hurt you with is arm or legs. Briston Guidry and Tyrell Jacobs lead the stout defense. Catholic has arguably state’s best back in RB Derrius Guice. LB Uriah Alexander and P/K Jack Gonsoulin play key roles for the Bears.
Shaw (2-1) vs. Higgins (0-3) Hoss Memtsas
Last week: Shaw beat South Lafourche 56-15; Higgins lost to Ponchatoula 55-7.
Last year: Shaw won 38-6.
The buzz: The Eagles have scored 60 and 56 points in its past two outings. RB Trey Ragas has rushed for 393 yards on 40 carries for the Eagles, while QB Matt Keller has thrown for 443 yards. Hurricanes have scored just 21 points in its first three games. First-year coach Craig Laborde is seeking his first win at the program.
St. Patrick (Miss.) (2-2) at Pearl River (0-3)

The buzz: Pearl River is 1-2 on field, but had to forfeit a 9-7 win against Pope John Paul II for using an ineligible player; RB Devan Penton (166 yards rushing) leads Pearl River. St. Patrick beat PJP II 24-6 on Sept. 5; .Fighting Irish riding a 2-game winning streak after 0-2 start.
Thomas Jefferson (3-0) vs. De La Salle (2-1), Tad Gormley
