Tournaments take over the high school basketball landscape starting Wednesday at a variety of sites in the Baton Rouge metro area.

Zachary’s John Herty Memorial, and Walker’s tournaments feature boys and girls teams starting Wednesday. The Hosanna Christian Tournament that starts Thursday also features girls and boys teams.

St. Amant’s Ralph Sellers Gold Dome Classic, the Brusly Tournament, University High’s Southpoint Volkswagen Classic, the Ascension Christian Lions Shootout and the Maurepas Tournament all feature boys teams.

The St. Michael Tournament, White Castle Tournament and the Parkview Baptist Lady Eagles Invitational are for girls teams.

Two boys games on Wednesday should garner special interest. At 5:30 p.m., East Ascension meets Hammond at the Gold Dome Classic. EAHS coach Kenny Almond continues his quest for his 800th career win.

At 8:30 p.m. at the Brusly Tournament, the teams that squared off for the Class 1A state title last spring meet again as defending champion White Castle faces Southern Lab, last year’s runner-up.

The Herty Memorial features games in two gyms starting at 3 p.m. The boys teams of note include Scotlandville, West Monroe, Christian Life and Ouachita. Girls teams include West Feliciana, host Zachary, Peabody-Alexandria, Baker and Dutchtown.

Walker welcomes a group of southeast-based teams including Amite, Mandeville and Bogalusa, along with local teams like Istrouma and Tara.

The PBS Lady Eagles Invitational includes Redemptorist, Runnels, Catholic-Pointe Coupee and Brusly.

The 16-team St. Michael girls tourney includes games at St. Michael, Episcopal and Denham Springs, and features north Louisiana teams, including Loyola Prep and Benton.

Boys teams also set to compete at St. Amant’s Gold Dome tourney include Woodlawn, Dunham, Lutcher and Dutchtown. Other teams to play at Brusly include Madison Prep, Assumption, Port Allen and East Iberville.

The Hosanna tourney begins Thursday and includes host HCA, St. John, False River Academy and Ascension Catholic.

U-High’s Southpoint Volkswagen tourney also starts Thursday with four boys games. The host Cubs, Runnels, Parkview, Episcopal, St. Michael and Family Christian are entered.
