The Mount Carmel Academy Cubs defeated the Cabrini Crescents at Cabrini in straight sets (25-10, 25-11, 25-10) to improve to 8-0 on the season.
“We’ve been working hard,” Mount Carmel coach April Hagadone said. “We’re just working on getting ourselves better at this moment.”
Mount Carmel pulled away in the first set early, at one time converting 12 straight points to build up a 13-1 lead. Cabrini (0-3) staged a mini rally toward the end and carried some momentum into the early part of the second set, but the Cubs again went on a long run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Mount Carmel executed their attack very efficiently. Everyone seemed to be in the right place at the right time nearly the entire match.
“We’re getting the big things right, and we’re now working on the little things,” Hagadone said. “They’re striving to do their best. They’re really working hard. I’m proud of my team’s performance today.”
Megan Davenport and Marissa Lagasse tied for the team lead with 10 kills. Davenport also had five blocks. Jillian Clark had 24 assists while Olivia Smit contributed with 13 digs and Katie Kampen chipped in with three aces.
“Were really coming together as a team,” Davenport said. “We’re meshing together. We found our rhythm tonight. It was really great teamwork.”
Mount Carmel will travel to St. Joseph’s Academy on Thursday and try to maintain their perfect start. Cabrini will continue to look for their first victory when they take on E.D. White at home Monday.
