All games start at 7 p.m

Acadiana (3-3, 2-1) at Sulphur (4-2, 3-0)

Last year: Acadiana won 28-3.

The buzz: Sulphur finds itself as the District 3-5A leader after a big win at Carencro last Friday night. Acadiana’s offense came alive last week. Eyes will be on this game.

New Iberia (1-5, 0-3) at Barbe (4-2, 2-1)

Last year: New Iberia won 31-28.

The buzz: New Iberia is mired in the middle of a difficult season. Barbe needs the win to keep pace in a 3-5A race that has four teams with one loss.

Carencro (4-2, 2-1) at Sam Houston (5-1, 2-1)

Last year: Sam Houston won 17-14.

The buzz: The records tell the pregame story. Carencro lost a major game to Sulphur last week. Sam Houston rebounded with a close victory over New Iberia. This game will have a lot of impact on the league standings.

Wash.-Marion (1-5, 1-2) at Beau Chene (3-3, 1-1)

Last year: Washington-Marion won 21-12.

The buzz: Washington-Marion lost by a point last week to 4-4A opponent Crowley. The Indians can’t afford to lose another game in a district race that looks as bizarre as the one last season. Beau Chene has surpassed its win total from last year.

Teurlings (4-1, 2-0) at St. Thomas More (6-0, 2-0)

Last year: STM won 21-7.

The buzz: Easily the best game in the Acadiana area. Teurlings and STM display high-scoring offenses and both are ranked among the elite in Class 4A. Some think this game will decide the District 5-4A champion.

St. Martinville (1-5, 0-3) at Breaux Bridge (4-2, 2-1)

Last year: Breaux Bridge won 23-6.

The buzz: This game is important for St. Martinville, which still has a chance to finish in the upper part of 5-4A. The Tigers will have to contend with a Breaux Bridge defense that has remained solid while a young offense has matured.

Westgate (1-5, 0-3) at Cecilia (2-4, 1-2)

Last year: Westgate won 28-18.

The buzz: Westgate has experienced a difficult season with a young team. The problem for Westgate in this game is stopping Cecilia running back Raymond Calais. When Calais is bottled up, there is always the passing of the Bulldogs’ Landon Roberts who has thrown for over 1,000 yards.

Rayne (5-1, 1-1) at Eunice (3-3, 1-2)

Last year: Eunice won 23-11.

The buzz: Rayne and Eunice are trying to keep pace in District 4-4A. Eunice already has two district losses and can’t afford another defeat if the Bobcats hope to advance in the league standings. Rayne has an impressive offense with a pair of dynamic running backs and a passing game.

Northside (3-3, 2-1) at Opelousas (1-5, 0-3)

Last year: Northside won 45-25.

The buzz: Both step outside their districts. Northside was defeated 40-0 last week by Breaux Bridge. Opelousas lost a rivalry game and a district contest to Beau Chene by 17 points.

Church Point (6-0, 1-0) at Northwest (1-5, 0-1)

Last year: Church Point won 28-7.

The buzz: Church Point opened District 5-3A last Friday with a 55-point statement. The Bears, ranked in the Top 10 again this week, face a Northwest defense that has struggled all season.

Livonia (5-0, 1-0) at Port Barre (2-4, 0-1)

Last year: Livonia won 27-20.

The buzz: Livonia has lived up to its preseason billing as the team to beat in 5-3A. Nothing the Wildcats have done this season has changed that. Port Barre has been having offensive problems the past couple of weeks.

North Vermilion (1-5, 0-1) at Abbeville (0-6, 0-1)

Last year: North Vermilion won 53-13.

The buzz: North Vermilion has a chance to move up in the District 6-3A standings. Abbeville’s woeful season has not improved as the weeks have progressed.

Notre Dame (4-2, 1-0) at Erath (3-3, 1-0)

Last year: Notre Dame won 42-7.

The buzz: The Pioneers have had their ups and downs this season — the 330th win for coach Lewis Cook, Jr. and a game in which several players were suspended. NDHS needs a district win to stay with Kaplan, which is on a four-game winning streak. Erath tries to remain among the 6-3A leaders.

Catholic-NI (6-0, 1-0) at Westminster (0-6, 0-1)

Last year: Catholic-New Iberia won 62-14.

The buzz: This game defines the word contrast. Catholic-New Iberia has one of the best offenses in the Acadiana area. Westminster is struggling on offense, scoring one touchdown in each of the past six games.

Delcambre (3-3, 1-0) at Loreauville (3-3, 0-1)

Last year: Loreauville won 42-3.

The buzz: Delcambre has won two straight. One of those was a district-opening win at Westminster last week. Loreauville lost at Opelousas Catholic in a game where the Tigers generated little offense.

Opelousas Catholic (6-0, 1-0) at Jeanerette (2-4, 0-1)

Last year: Opelousas Catholic won 42-0.

The buzz: Opelousas Catholic played its statement game in a victory over Loreauville last week. Jeanerette will have to contend with a Vikings offense that likes to pound the running game.

Sacred Heart (3-3, 1-0) at False River (1-3, 0-0)

Last year: Sacred Heart won 34-0.

The buzz: Sacred Heart has been somewhat erratic in its first season under coach Gary Adkins. The Trojans, though, are one of the choices for a champion in District 5-1A.

North Central (1-5, 0-1) at St. Edmund (3-3, 1-0)

Last year: St. Edmund won 40-0.

The buzz: St. Edmund has the offense that should enable the Blue Jays to continue heading towards a 5-1A showdown with Sacred Heart on the final week of the season. North Central has shown improvement this season, but the Hurricanes allow too many points.

Catholic-MC (4-2, 2-1) at Ascension Episcopal (5-1, 2-0)

Last year: Central Catholic won 40-24.

The buzz: Central Catholic is seeking a win that will allow the Eagles to grab a share of the 7-1A title. AES is undefeated in district games. One of the better matchups in the Acadiana area Friday.

Gueydan (0-6, 0-2) at Hanson Memorial (4-2, 1-2)

Last year: Hanson won 47-14.

The buzz: Gueydan is in Week 7 and still searching for a first 2014 victory. Hanson allowed 51 points last week in the loss to Central Catholic in a 7-1A game.

Highland Baptist (4-2, 1-1) at Vermilion Cath. (5-1, 3-0)

Last year: Vermilion Catholic won 47-14.

The buzz: Highland faces a 7-1A opponent that played for a state title last season and which looks and plays like a league champion again this season.

Berwick (2-4, 1-0) at Lafayette Christian (2-4, 0-3)

Last year: LCA won 28-24.

The buzz: Lafayette Christian steps outside 7-1A competition to play a Berwick team struggling again this season.
