Girls cross country

Annie Hill, St. Joseph’s Academy

Big races are nothing new for Hill. However, the junior posted a personal-best three-mile time of 18 minutes, 59.98 seconds at Highland Road Park to finish third in the Catholic High Invitational. Hill’s efforts helped the Redstickers win the team title with the low score of 52 points.

“The biggest change was my mentality,” Hill said. “I knew the only person I needed to worry about was me, so I went out and ran my race and I had fun doing it.”

Boys cross country

Jeffrey Kelley, Catholic

Kelley claims the weekly honor for the second time after notching the biggest victory of his career. The senior won the boys race at the Catholic High Invitational with a three-mile time of 15 minutes. 2.6 seconds that also was personal best at High. Kelley helped the Bears place second.

“It (victory) was something I definitely hoped for,” Kelley said. “I can’t say one part of the race was better, the whole thing was the same except for the sprint at the end.”
