MONROE — University High claimed its seventh straight state title in Division IV boys tennis, while the UHS girls in Division IV and Parkview Baptist boys in Division III, claimed runner-up finishes at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s State Tennis Tournament on Tuesday.

U-High scored all of its points during Monday’s competition and held off a challenge from Shreveport’s Evangel Christian to win the Division IV boys crown as the two-day event concluded at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The four-day LHSAA meet continues Wednesday with teams from Division I and Division II beginning two days competition at ULM.

“We had some individual things that didn’t go as well as we had hoped,” UHS coach Johnny Wahlborg said. “But the focus was on winning a team title, and they (UHS) never lost sight of that.”

The U-High girls finished as the runner-up to Sacred Heart-New Orleans. The UHS duo of Billie Rodman and Carey Wahlborg finished as the doubles runner-up.

The Baton Rouge area did have one individual winner. West Feliciana’s Basia Walters defeated Jennings’ Kate Hollier 6-4, 6-2 to win the girls singles title in Division III.

Parkview was the runner-up to another Shreveport team, Loyola College Prep, in the Division III boys. The Eagles’ Christopher Anders was the singles runner-up to Loyola’s Charley Boyd, who won 7-6, 6-4. The PBS doubles team of Collin Anders and Michael Bayles also finished as the runner-up.

Notre Dame-Crowley won the Division III girls title, finishing ahead of Berwick. Monroe-based St. Frederick (girls) and Episcopal School of Acadiana (boys) won the Division V team titles.
