SULPHUR — The Parkview Baptist baseball team ended it's season a win shy of its ultimate goal Saturday night, as the Eagles fell, 4-2 to No. 2 John Curtis in the finals of the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Baseball tournament at McMurry Park.
The championship marks the program's seventh title and its first since 2002.
The Patriots were led by pitcher Daniel Cabrera who pitched all seven innings and gave up just two runs, none earned while striking out 11 batters.
Barbe High 6, Catholic High 1
SULPHUR – Brant McNease tossed a three-hitter, striking out four as fifth-seeded Barbe High ousted No. 2 Catholic High 6-1 to win the Class 5A title on Saturday night at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Baseball tournament.
Addison Armand hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning and Marshall Alexander had a two-RBI single in the third for the Bucs (32-10), who won their sixth 5A title in the last 10 years.
Matt Crapanzan, Cole Johnson and Brian Fairbanks had the only hits for Catholic (37-4) in the game played at McMurry Park.
St. Thomas More 5, Teurlings Catholic 1
For the first time in program history, St. Thomas More has won back-to-back state championships in baseball.
Led by a strong pitching performance from Brennan Breaux and a four-run sixth inning, No. 2 STM took down District 5-4A rival No. 5 Teurlings Catholic 5-1 in the Class 4A title game at McMurry Park. It is the program’s fourth overall state title following championships in 1983, 1992 and 2014.
Breaux was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player after giving up one run on three hits while striking out 10 in 6 and 1/3 innings of work.
