Christian Life Academy boys basketball coach Stephen Dale was named to the same position at St. Paul’s, SPS athletic director Craig Ketelsen confirmed Tuesday.

Dale replaces Phil Williams, who retired at the end of this past season after leading the Wolves to a 31-2 record and a second-round playoff appearance.

“(Dale) was the right fit both academically and on the court,” Ketelsen said. “He brings a quality record and has head coaching experience and, being a graduate of Archbishop Rummel, he has an understanding of how things work over here. We are excited to have him join the St. Paul’s family.”

After coaching the Crusaders for the past three seasons, Dale said he is excited to take over one of the top programs in the New Orleans area.

“The last three years at Christian Life, we have had a tremendous amount of success and I believe continued the tradition developed at the school,” Dale said. “For me personally, in my career, being a Rummel grad and growing up in Catholic schools, the opportunity to go to in what my opinion is one of the preeminent catholic schools in the New Orleans area was just too good to pass up.

“It is a school with great athletic and academic traditions. This past year’s squad gained a lot of notoriety with their winning streak, but there is also a lot still left there. I think it is a basketball program in great shape. I want to build on the success that Coach Williams built at the school and build them into a consistent winner every season.”
