The Advocate’s All-Metro softball team: Classes 5A and 4A _lowres

St. Amant’s Kara Gremillion leads the group of heavy hitters on the large schools team after leading the Gators to a 30-2 record and the No. 1 playoff seed in Class 5A. She hit .548 with 15 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 38 RBIs, 62 runs and 29 stolen bases. The junior shortstop also had a .942 slugging percentage. Gremillion is the Most Valuable Player on The Advocate’s 2014 All-Metro softball team for Classes 5A and 4A.

The other honorees:

FIRST TEAM

P: Amanda Holliday/Live Oak

Finished with a 16-4 record and a 1.84 ERA while helping the Eagles to the 5A semifinals.

P: Skylar Cook/St. Amant

Played a key role for the Gators by tallying a 21-3 record and 1.71 ERA and 133 strikeouts.

P: Kassey Ard/Walker

Was a steady presence for the 5A Wildcats thanks to a 19-10 record and 121 strikeouts.

P: Jessie Watts/East Ascension

Had a 24-9 record while helping the Spartans to the 5A quarters with nearly 200 strikeouts.

C: Jaden Accardo/Denham Springs

Was one of the area’s top power hitters, finishing with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs.

C: Jessica Crum/Dutchtown

Posted a .424 batting average en route to a team-high nine home runs and 40 RBIs.

INF: Carmisha Payton/East Ascension

Played third base and had eight home runs, 54 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.

INF: Payton Gremillion/Live Oak

Hit .495 as a leadoff batter with 15 RBIs and played second base for 5A semifinalists.

INF: Claire Weinberger/East Ascension

Shortstop had a .495 batting average, a .516 on-base percentage and stolen bases.

OF: Brittany Case/Denham Springs

A catalyst at the top of the Yellow Jackets batting order hit .606 with 47 runs and 25 RBIs.

OF: Madison Edmonston/St. Amant

Put together a batting average of .552 for the Gators that included 47 runs and 34 RBIs.

OF: Taylor Lockwood/Walker

Batted .551 and stole 42 bases to go with 21 RBIs and a .979 fielding percentage.

OF: Ally Howard/Live Oak

Had a .388 batting average, a .517 on-base percentage and an .889 fielding percentage.

OF: Harli Crow/Denham Springs

Scored 42 runs and had 34 RBIs to complement a .427 batting average.

UTIL: Katelyn McKenzie/Walker

Played shortstop and finished the season with a .369 batting average and 24 RBIs.

UTIL: Jordan Hartman/St. Amant

Scored 30 runs, had 30 RBIs and had a .457 batting average while playing third base.

UTIL: Ali Delaney/St. Amant

Key cog for the Gators played first base and batted .471, with 39 runs scored and 42 RBIs.

UTIL: Mallory Perrault/Plaquemine

Pitched every game for the 4A Green Devils, compiling a 17-10 record and also batted .350.

UTIL: Gisselle Ash/Live Oak

Finished with a .453 batting average and .628 slugging percentage while playing third base.

UTIL: Hope Vezinat/Dutchtown

Third baseman compiled a .356 batting average, 25 runs and 16 RBI for the 5A Griffins.

UTIL: Heidi Zumo/Central

Led Central to the Class 5A playoffs with a .457 batting average and scored 20 runs.

Pitchers: Ali McCoy, Dutchtown; Holly Morrison, Denham Springs.

Catchers: Katelyn McLin, Live Oak; Carlie Whittington, St. Amant.

Infielders: Kameryn Fairchild, Plaquemine; Mia Johnson, Plaquemine; Maggie Hinson, Denham Springs; Jaci Lavigne, St. Amant.

Outfielders: Kayla Braud, St. Amant; Royelle Cobb, Dutchtown; Bria White, Dutchtown.

Utility: Rachel Gautreaux, St. Amant; Bailey Gilleon, Dutchtown.

COACH OF THE YEAR

David Bourque, Denham Springs

Bourque led Denham Springs to its second runner-up finish in four years in Class 5A. Only one other area team, Class 1A Ascension Catholic, managed a runner-up finish. The Yellow Jackets compiled a 23-6 record.

The team is selected by area coaches.
