A few minutes with ... Javin Myers _lowres

Javin Myers, Woodlawn RB

You’re a junior now and you moved to Baton Rouge before your sophomore year. Where did you grow up?

I lived in Augusta, Georgia. I started at running back my freshman year and had right around 1,000 yards.

Let’s go over some basics. How tall are you, how much do you weigh and what’s your fastst 40-yard dash time?

I’m 5-10 and weight about 185 pounds. That’s about 10 more than last year. My fastest 40 (-yard dash time) is a 4.45 (seconds).

You ran for 200 yards on 21 carries and scored three TDs to help Woodlawn beat St. Michael last week. You now have 1,060 yards on 154 carries with 8 TDs. Tell us about last week’s game?

The line actually made it really easy. Whenever I got to the line and started making my reads, the holes were there. All I had to do was run through them. I didn’t know how many yards I had until they told me after the game.

How many scholarship offers do you have?

Right now it’s just Tulane. But I’m hearing from a lot of other schools like ULL, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech. I’ve gotten letters from Tennessee, Missouri and Florida State.

Woodlawn has a big game at Livonia this week. What’s your impression of Livonia?

I like their defense. They played hard on every down, and they fly to the football. They make plays.

Livonia has a 1,000-yard rusher of its own Patrick Queen. What’s your impression of him?

He’s a little bigger than I am, but I think our styles are similar. He’s a physical runner who goes hard on every play. He’s not easy to tackle.

What do you think is the keys to victory for Woodlawn?

Just play hard ... and no turnovers.
