Nominations are being accepted for the 13th annual U.S. Army Red Stick Bowl football all-star game set for Dec. 21 at Olympia Stadium.

The annual game for top seniors in the Baton Rouge area will feature two of this season’s most successful coaches, St. Michael the Archangel’s Paul Varnado and Brett Beard of Woodlawn High.

You ready for … basketball

It’s jamboree time for Class B-C schools and their basketball teams, starting Tuesday.

Holden is hosting a boys/girls jamboree that begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with Family Christian taking on Phoenix in a boys game.

Boys teams will play two 10-minute halves, while the girls teams are set to play two five-minute halves. The other games are Maurepas vs. Phoenix girls at 5:15 p.m., Holden vs. Phoenix girls at 5:45 p.m., Holden vs. Maurepas boys at 6:15 p.m. and Holden vs. Maurepas girls at 7 p.m.

Volleyball rankings

Thanks to last weekend’s tournament win over St. Joseph’s Academy, Mount Carmel Academy has moved up to No. 42 in the latest Century Club National High School Rankings.

St. Joseph’s rated 55th as the two teams enter the final week of the regular season. The two teams have split their four games with each other.

MCA and SJA are the only Louisiana teams in the top 100. Two other local teams, Parkview Baptist and University, are listed among Louisiana’s other teams to watch.

Woodlawn seeks two volleyball opponents this week with options to play either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday.

Benefit basketball clinics

Former University High boys basketball coach Ari Fisher is planning one-day basketball clinics during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays that will serve as fundraisers to help defray the medical expenses of Drew Moscona, infant son of local radio host Matt Moscona.

The clinics are open to children ages 10-13 and space is limited.
