Signees, etc.

Donaldsonville High track standout Ka’Lynn Jupiter signed with LSU last week. Jupiter won the 3A 100 hurdles (14.13 seconds), triple jump (36-4 1/2) and 300 hurdles (42.63) at Saturday’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A outdoor meet.

Jupiter was one of two DHS girls to sign. Basketball player Patrice West signed with Southern University.

Meanwhile, former Redemptorist and Southern Lab basketball player JR Harris signed with Iowa-based Indian Hills Community College last week. Harris spent the 2012-13 year rehabbing from a knee injury after helping SLHS advance to the Class 1A semifinals as a senior. He earned district MVP honors at Redemptorist.

“JR is the exact type of player we’re looking for at Indian Hills,” Indian Hills coach Barret Perry said in a news release. “He is a long, talented player that can do many things with the ball at the offensive end and guard multiple positions at the defensive end.”

Two more Baton Rouge area girls are scheduled to sign this week.

Plaquemine High multi-sport athlete Amber Smith is set to sign a basketball scholarship with Baton Rouge Community College at 2 p.m. Monday at the school.

St. Amant multi-sport athlete Destiny Bourgeois is scheduled to sign a track scholarship with Southeastern Louisiana University at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Gold Dome classroom at SAHS.

Bourgeois finished fifth in the 5A triple jump at 36-11 in Saturday’s 5A meet.
