The Academy of Our Lady Penguins clinched the District 10-4A championship with a dominating 13-3 win over the Belle Chasse Cardinals Thursday at Belle Chasse Middle School.

It was the Penguins second victory over Belle Chasse in as many days.

“We won yesterday, so that gave us a little confidence,” AOL coach Ginger Dilworth said. “They helped us out with a few errors, but you’ve got to put the ball in play, and we did that.”

Belle Chasse committed three errors in the second inning that allowed five AOL runs to score. Cailey Folse and Jenna Parker each had an RBI single, and Haley Richard knocked in a two-run double. Folse ended the day with five RBIs.

“She’s grown into a mini-leader,” Dilworth said of Folse. “She’s only a sophomore. Our center fielder’s a senior, and she knows next year she’s got to fill those shoes.”

Taylor Toledano pitched a complete game.

“It feels great (to win district),” Toledano said. “I knew I had to come out and pitch well, and we won.” She did not allow a hit until the third inning and did not show any signs of wearing down until the last inning, when the Cardinals managed to push two runs across.

“I knew we had it from the beginning when we were on top, and they were down,” she said.

Academy of Our Lady will wrap its season at Mount Carmel on Monday. Belle Chasse will finish their regular season with a home game against Lutcher on Tuesday.
