Amite coach Alden Foster has been named head football coach and athletic diretor at East St. John.
Foster replaces former coach Phil Banko.
“This process produced an excellent coach that we believe will produce victories on and off the field,” said Kevin George, superintendent of The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District, in an emailed statement.
Foster has been head football coach at Amite High School for the past seven years, has 13 years of experience as an athletic director and 18 years as a head coach. His credits include three state championship appearances, nine District Coach of the Year awards, two Louisiana Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year Awards and a Louisiana Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year Award. He is one of just three coaches in Louisiana football history to take two different teams to the state championship game and his Amite High Warriors have been District Champions six of the seven years he has served as head coach.
Foster graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he also played football, and has earned a master of arts in teaching from Southeastern Louisiana University.
Foster is expected to be on campus by Feb. 2.
