Top-seeded St. Amant of Class 5A helped top the list of teams that claimed bidistrict round softball playoff wins Tuesday.
St. Amant beat Chalmette 5-1, while defending Class 3A state champion Brusly breezed past District 7-3A rival West Feliciana 10-0.
The area’s other top seed, Catholic-Pointe Coupee, beat Ringgold 15-0 on Monday.
In 4A action, both teams from District 6-4A advanced with home victories. District champion Lutcher topped No. 27 Tioga 11-1 in five innings, while Plaquemine went the full seven innings to best No. 24 Belle Chasse 11-9.
ST. AMANT 5, CHALMETTE 1: The 5A Gators picked up two runs in the first inning and three in the fourth behind the bats of Ali DeLany and Jordan Hartman to support the two-hit pitching of Skylar Cook. It was Cook’s 20th win of the season against two losses. Top-seeded St. Amant will go for its 30th win in the regional round against Sulphur, an 11-4 winner over Zachary.
PLAQUEMINE 11, BELLE CHASSE 9: The 4A Green Devils overcame five errors on defense and broke open a tie game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for a win. Winning pitcher Mallory Perraut helped her own cause with three RBI, backed up offensively by Madison Hebert with two RBI and Mia Johnson with a triple and two RBIs.
BRUSLY 10, WEST FELICIANA 0: Brusly had two hits apiece from Kaitlyn David, Camryn Comeaux, Jonette Fitzgerald and Lanesha Taylor as it scored nine runs in the first four innings, then ended the game with a single run in the sixth. Comeaux shut out the Saints, yielding only singles to Bre Willis and losing pitcher Katie Sirchia.
LIVE OAK 15, RUSTON 5: Class 5A LOHS scored eight first-inning runs to break the game wide open. Lauren Brown finished 3-for-4 and Jiselle Ash was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the third-seeded Eagles (22-3).
Amanda Holliday (14-3) allowed just three hits while picking up the win.
PARKVIEW BAPTIST 7, SOUTH BEAUREGARD 0: Savannah Adams had three RBI and Anna Bordelon pitched a five-hit shutout for the Class 3A Eagles.
MT. CARMEL 3, CENTRAL 1: Mount Carmel, last year’s 5A runner-up, edged Central at home. The Wildcats kept the game close behind the pitching of Heather Zumo and the hitting of Heidi Zumo, but MCA pitcher Amanda Cannella fought through injuries she suffered in a weekend tubing accident to hold Central to four hits. Sam Dares had a home run and a double for MCA.
ARCHBISHOP HANNAN 5, FRENCH SETTLEMENT 4: Archbishop Hannan needed a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to avert an upset loss to No. 21 French Settlement in Class 2A. Shaye Tredinich hit a two-out single for the Lady Hawks to drive in Jensen Volz for a 5-4 win and a berth in the regional round against No. 5 Riverside.
