Brother Martin-based Peake BMW moved into the driver’s seat of the American Legion Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament after beating Rummel-based Deanie’s Seafood 10-2 in Saturday’s battle of tournament unbeatens.
LSU commitment Blair Frederick had 11 strikeouts to lead Peake BMW.
The game at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium had a 45-minute delay because of lightning.
In Saturday’s other game, Mandeville-based LLOG built a five-run lead after five innings and then held on for a 13-12 victory over Hahnville-based Otto Candies in an elimination game.
Also Saturday, St. Charles-based Townsend Homes eliminated Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s 7-3 in a game that lasted 10 innings.
Justin Ory’s three-run double in the 10th proved to be the difference.
LLOG will play Peake BMW at 11 a.m. Sunday. Townsend Homes will play Deanie’s Seafood at 2 p.m Sunday in an elimination game.
Of the four teams left in the double elimination tournament, Peake BMW is the only undefeated team.
The championship game (or games) will be played Monday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
The top two teams in the tournament that began with eight teams will qualify for the state tournament, which will be played July 18-22 also at Kirsch-Rooney.
Six teams from throughout the state have qualified for the state tournament, including three from the New Orleans area that won their respective district titles.
Retif Oil (Jesuit), Refuel (Shaw) and the River Ridge Patriots (John Curtis) all won district titles and will be joined at the state tournament by Gauthier & Amedee, the Delhomme Drillers (Acadiana) and the Crowley Millers (Crowley).
