Franklinton football coach Shane Smith resigned and accepted a position on the Southeastern Louisiana University coaching staff, a pair of sources told The Advocate on Thursday night.
Smith led the Demons to the 2010 Class 4A state championship with a 34-28 win over Karr.
Sources said Smith told his team of his resignation on Thursday. Smith served as athletic director and assistant principal at Franklinton High in addition to his head-coaching duties.
The coach at one of the most successful high school programs in the state the last five seasons, Smith led the Demons to the state semifinals in 2015 and 2014, going 22-6.
Multiple calls to Smith were unreturned late Thursday night.
