The rain never completely went away, but neither did Denham Springs’ desire to host the first Louisiana High School Coaches Association Baseball All-Star game Friday night at North Park.

Despite a rain shower at approximately 4 p.m., Denham Springs High coach Mark Carroll moved forward with plans to host the game at 7:30 p.m.

“It rained and we were about ready to call it for the day,” Carroll said. “But then the sun popped back out and we decided to make a go of it.”

The players for the East and West squads reported as scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday. Practices were held at North Park using an artificial turf pratice surface and indoor batting cages.

The second game is set for 12:15 p.m. Saturday. If there is added rain and North Park’s Netterville Field is not playable, Carroll said nearby Walker High would be an alternate site.
