The numbers to know before the Catholic High Invitational for wrestling are five and 10.
Ten teams are entered in the one-day tournament that begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at the school.
The dual meet format puts teams in five pools. The pool winners meet to decide the champion at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Five of the teams competing placed in the top three in their respective divisions at last year’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament.
Lafayette’s Teurlings Catholic and Holy Cross-New Orleans won state titles last year. TCHS won the Division II-Class 4A title, while Holy Cross was the Division III-Classes 3A and below champion.
Jesuit-New Orleans (Division I-5A) and Brusly (Division III) were runners-up. Host Catholic placed third in Division I.
“To be honest with you, I’m not sure what to expect,” Catholic coach Tommy Prochaska said. “I don’t think Holy Cross has been at full strength yet this season. I know Jesuit went to Florida and did well, but I haven’t seen them. It’s going to be interesting.”
Other teams scheduled to compete include Zachary, East Ascension, St. Amant, Hahnville and Live Oak.
