THIBODAUX — Thibodaux racked up 358 rushing yards and forced two turnovers in a 35-21 win over East St. John in District 7-5A play Friday night.
The Tigers were led by senior quarterback Peyton Bonvillain (22 carries, 115 yards, two TDs; 2-for-6 passing, 27 yards) and senior running back Jayquan Chenier (28 carries, 135 yards, two TDs).
Thibodaux (7-1, 4-1) held East St. John (4-4, 3-2) to 254 yards from scrimmage. Xavier Lewis, a LSU commitment, finished with 13 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown run while completing 6-of-15 passes for 142 yards with one touchdown pass and one interception.
East St. John had a chance to tie the score in the fourth quarter, trailing 28-21 with 4:20 remaining in the game.
With the ball at their 35, Wildcats runner Nigel Anderson took a handoff and scrambled a few yards before losing the football, which was recovered by Thibodaux’s Amik Robertson.
Thibodaux slowly milked the time away with its running game and scored a kill-shot touchdown on Chenier’s 5-yard run that made it 35-21 with 1:37 left.
HAHNVILLE 58, H.L. BOURGEOIS 8: Austin Perrin threw for three touchdowns (40, 22 and 19 yards) and also had a 44 yard rushing touchdown as Hahnville upped its record to 3-2 in District 7-5A. Brandon Singleton caught all three touchdowns. Jai Knight returned an interception 54 yards touchdown for Hahnville (35-3). H.L. Bourgeois dropped to 1-7 and 0-5 in district play.
RIVERSIDE 40, SOUTH PLAQUEMINES 0: Herb Magee had a 70-yard touchdown run and Jordan Loving had a 60-yard scoring jaunt to keep Riverside (8-0, 5-0), the second-ranked team in Class 2A, atop the standings in District 8-2A. Hardell Mack added scoring runs of 8 and 10 yards.
The Riverside defense did its part as Jake Venus returned a fumble 35 yards for a touchdown and Joe Anderson recorded a safety.
ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 45, ST. HELENA 20: Cameron Dantzler had 12 and 50-yard rushing touchdowns as seventh-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas (7-1, 5-0) remained in the lead in District 7-2A.
Ralph Haynes ran for a 1-yard touchdown and threw a 37-yard touchdown to Jordan Beckerra, Mason Miller returned a punt 21 yards for a touchdown scored on a 21-yard interception return.
Latron Williams had an 80 and 65-yard runs for St. Helena (1-7, 1-3). . Ricky Travis also had a 1 yard rushing touchdown.
SOUTH TERREBONNE 42, MORGAN CITY 7: In Morgan City, Christian Wallis ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns to lead South Terrebonne (6-1, 3-0) past Morgan City (2-6, 0-2) in District 7-4A.
South Terrebonne scored 35 points in the first half to put the game away while holding Morgan City to 74 yards and intercepting a pass.
