It’s about more than just the high school football regular season this week.

Baton Rouge area volleyball, cross country and swim teams also begin their respective seasons with regular season action that starts Tuesday with 13 volleyball contests. The volleyball week concludes with Broadmoor and Woodlawn hosting the South Louisiana Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday at WHS and Baton Rouge High. Pool play begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday and the title match is set for 7 p.m. Saturday for the 35-team tournament.

St. Michael the Archangel and West Feliciana open the cross country season with separate meets Saturday. St. Michael’s Bayou Boogie Invitational is set for Highland Road Park with competitors running three-mile and two-mile races starting at 8:30 a.m. WFHS hosts a six-mile relay race meet in the St. Francisville area with races times to begin at 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Capital City Swim League is set to host two Saturday meets at Crawfish Aquatics. Meet times are 8 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.

BRPT Friday clinic

Baton Rouge Physical Therapy-Lake and Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic are hosting a free clinic Friday night for athletes injured during the football season.

Injured players can come to the Surgical Specialty Center between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. each Friday for treatment. Injury assessment and other services are provided by staff from BRPT and the Orthopaedic Clinic, who volunteer their services.

The clinic, in its 13th year, runs through Nov. 7, the final night of the regular season. Contact Tyler Lafauci of BRPT at (225) 769-3898 for other details.

The Advocate sports staff is seeking varsity rosters for football and volleyball teams throughout the Baton Rouge area.
