After one quarter, the 10th-seeded Scotlandville High School’s girls basketball team had only an eight-point lead against Walker.

The lead grew substantially after that.

Scotlandville used a 16-3 second quarter to take a 21-point lead into the locker room and rolled to a 63-17 victory Monday in the first round of the Class 5A girls basketball playoffs.

Celicia Sterling and Kenya Dixon each scored 18 points for the Hornets, while Lenae Bickham added 12 points in the victory.

Scotlandville advances to take on seventh-seeded Ponchatoula in the regionals.

Class 4A

ST. MICHAEL 62, WOODLAWN-SHREVEPORT 34: The No. 2-seed ed Warriors faced little challenge, cruising after building a 21-point halftime lead.

St. Michael (30-4) got balanced scoring against No. 31-seeded Woodlawn, with Journee Beard and Tyler Morrison leading the way with 13 points.

Glen O’Neill added 12 points in the victory.

Class 3A

BAKER 90, XAVIER PREP 42: At Baker, Jacquis Dodson scored 21 points to pace five Buffaloes in double figures the second-seeded Buffaloes in double figures Monday.

Ariane Addison scored 18 points, while Eugenea James had 17 for Baker (22-5), which led 36-20 at halftime.

No. 31-seeded Xavier Prep of New Orleans (13-15) was led by 14 points from Alana Lawrence.

Baker advances to take on No. 15 seed Northwest in the regional round.
