Nini leads Shaw to 8-1 win in first game of Westbank Optimist Challenge at Segnette Field _lowres

WESTWEGO – Jace Nini scattered two hits in six innings in Archbishop Shaw’s 8-1 victory over Northlake Christian in the first game of the Westbank Optimist Challenge at Segnette Field.

The Eagles got all the runs they would need in the first inning when designated hitter Matt Keller drove in two runs on a single to centerfield. The Eagles added a run in the third on Bryce Dantin’s RBI an RBI single to centerfield..

Shaw improved to 9-5 and will play Slidell on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Jace Nini had a no-hitter through the first three innings until Diego Sanders hit a single to right. Shaw right fielder Juwan Orticke tried to throw Sanders out at first on the play but Sanders just beat out the throw.

Scott Ladet went 3-for-4 to lead Shaw.

Northlake Christian fell to 7-8.

The Wolverines will play Belle Chasse on Friday at 4 in the round robin tournament.
