Senior forward Cadie Higginson of Ben Franklin High School is the 2015-16 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Soccer Player of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday.
Higginson is the second player of the year to be chosen from Ben Franklin, according to a news release. The award recognizes athletic and academic achievement, as well as “exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.”
Higginson, a 5-foot-6 senior forward, scored 55 goals and passed for 15 assists this season, leading the Falcons to their fourth consecutive state championship.
Higginson has a 4.38 GPA and has volunteered on behalf of coastal restoration initiatives and the Korean War Veterans Association, the news release said.
She is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year, which will be announced in May.
Higginson will attend the United States Naval Academy in the fall, where she plans to play soccer.
