Loranger High School football coach Sam Messina confirmed the death of assistant coach Jeramie Hookfin on Tuesday night.
“This is really hard,” Messina said. “I played football with his dad and went to school with his mom. And I coached him at Independence before I came to Loranger. He had a stroke on Sunday and just never came out of it.”
Hookfin, 30, was a former Independence player and had been part of Messina’s staff at Loranger since 2009. He served as the defensive coordinator the past two seasons, Messina said. Hookfin also coached Loranger’s defensive backs.
Messina said arrangements were pending as of Tuesday night.
