St. Joseph’s Academy, Assumption, Teurlings Catholic, Pope John Paul II and Metairie Park Country Day claimed the top spots in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s volleyball playoff pairings released Monday.
As expected, defending state champion St. Joseph’s (41-2) and runner-up Mount Carmel Academy (42-2) were the top teams in Division I. SJA grabbed the No. 1 seed, while MCA is second.
Assumption (35-6) is first in Division II, followed by St. Scholastica (35-6). Teurlings (32-9) got the No. 1 seed in Division III, ahead of Ursuline Academy (31-11).
Pope John Paul (37-5) leads the list of Division IV seeds, with Louise McGehee (37-4) close behind.
Country Day (32-4) is another traditional power that leads Division V. Ascension Episcopal (24-10) claimed the No. 2 spot.
The top eight seeds in each division receive first-round byes. The first-round of playoffs must be completed by Thursday. The LHSAA/All-State Sugar Bowl State Tournament is set for Nov. 13-15 at Kenner’s Pontchartrain Center.
