This year’s state volleyball tournament recently concluded, but there is still one more game to be played.

That is the Louisiana High School Coaches Association all-star game that will be played 3 p.m. Saturday at Newman High School in Newman in New Orleans.

East team coordinator April Hagadone, who is Mount Carmel’s coach, said Saturday’s game is a showcase for the seniors before they end their high school careers.

“It’s an opportunity for the top seniors in the area to get seen and have a fun game,” Hagadone said. “It’s a wonderful honor for the girls that are selected.”

East team coach Danny Davis of Nortshore will be assisted by Dominican’s Ashlee Smith.

The West’s coordinator is St. Amant’s Allison Leake and the head coach is Episcopal of Acadiana’s Julie Dawson. The assistant is Ascension Episcopal’s Jill Braun.

Dominican is represented by Ashley Zamjahn and Sophie Miller, while Fontainebleau will be represented by Megan Zulli and Madison Heath.

Other players include St. Joseph’s Academy’s Parker Harrell (East) and Caitlin Carlos (West) along with Mt. Carmel’s Anne Bilinski (East) and Jordan Owens (West).

Episcopal of Acadiana is the sole school with two players on the West squad (Carla Dibbs and Elasha Williams).

St. Joseph’s coach Sivi Miller played in the game when she was a student at Andrew Jackson in Chalmette.

“I still treasure the opportunity when I was chosen to be on the all-star team,” Miller said.

“It’s a great opportunity for our seniors. It’s nice for the seniors to have one more chance.”

Hagadone said the players are selected by eight coaches on each side that pick the 13 senior players from all five divisions.

“It’s a great weekend for the coaches and coordinators,” Hagadone said.”I had the honor of being the coach two years ago.

“It was a wonderful experience and I know it will be for the girls.”
