BAKER — Baker High’s Preston Bell put together one of the Baton Rouge area’s most prolific games for a running back this season, rushing for 232 yards on 31 carries with two touchdowns.

Ultimately, a two-point conversion pass from Alex Hebert to Lorenzo Oboene lifted Port Allen High to a 22-21 victory over Baker in District 7-3A action Friday night at Wedge Kyes Stadium.

The Pelicans (4-1, 2-0) recovered a fumble near the end of the third quarter and drove 60 yards in six plays. Kevin Ransom scored on a 10-yard run to pull PAHS within one at 21-20 with five minutes remaining.

Port Allen’s decision to go for two-point PATs twice was a necessity. Pelicans kicker Jarious Robertson suffered a broken collarbone in the first quarter. Juwon Jackson ran for a team-high 63 yards for the winners, while DeMarcus Franklin added 54 yards on 12 carries.

Bell had TD runs of 16 and 8 yards to help Baker (2-3, 0-2) build a 14-8 halftime lead.

WEST FELICIANA 23, KENTWOOD 6: In St. Francisville, quarterback Ryan Reed ran for 119 yards, including a 45-yard TD run to help the Class 3A Saints (4-1) oust third-ranked Kentwood (4-1) of Class 1A. Steven Franks contributed 65 yards to the WFHS option attack and had scoring runs of 14 and 11 yards.

MADISON PREP 36, TARA 0: Class 1A Madison Prep (4-1) posted its fourth shutout of the season. Malcolm Roach returned a fumble 70 yards for a TD and also finished with two sacks and eight tackles for the Chargers.

Kevin Savoy intercepted a a pass and had five catches for 75 yards and a TD. Charrod Brumfield completed 7 of 13 passes for 151 yards and a TD. Tejuan Spurlock added 57 rushing yards on seven carries for the winners, who shut out a Class 4A team for the second time this season. Tara is 2-3.

DONALDSONVILLE 44, INDEPENDENCE 20: In Independence, Donaldsonville (3-2) scored 30 first-half points while running away with a nondistrict win over another Class 3A team.

Tyler Brown completed 15 of 18 passes for 210 yards and a TD for the Tigers. Tajh Gillard ran for 125 yards on 13 carries and scored two TDs to also help lead DHS. Jaquel Gant caught eight passes for 72 yards for the winners. Independence is 1-4.

ST. JAMES 63, FISHER 6: In Lafitte, Lowell Narcisse completed 17 of 25 passes for 292 yards and four TDs to power St. James (2-3, 1-1) to a District 8-2A road victory.

The sophomore quarterback also ran for 73 yards on four carries and scored a TD. Dontaze Costly was the top receiver for the Wildcats, hauling in five passes for 143 yards and a TD.

OPELOUSAS CATHOLIC 33, CATHOLIC-PC 7: In New Roads, Aaron Miller ran for 157 yards on 18 carries and scored a TD to help carry Class 2A OCHS (5-0) to an easy win.

The Vikings also got 163 passing yards and 2 TDs from David Labbe, who threw a 40-yard TD pass to Jacobi Richard and a 15-yarder to Brett Mills.

Class 1A CHSPC (2-3) was led by Jonas Guichet and Gabe Vandegrift. Guichet completed 24 of 48 passes for 278 yards with a a TD and two interceptions. Vandegrift caught 10 passes for 151 yards, including a 9-yard scoring pass.
