LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Madison Prep capped off an impressive 35-1 season with a dominating 72-46 victory over Lafayette Christian in the 2015 Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Class 1A State Championship game Saturday afternoon in Lake Charles.
Winners of 33 consecutive games, the Chargers (35-1) were led by Most Outstanding Player Brandon Sampson who finished with a game-high 19 points. Joshua Anderson added 18 points with four rebound and Joshua Leblanc had 14 points and four rebounds.
After giving up the opening bucket of the game to fall behind 2-0, Madison Prep took control of the game early in the first quarter. Led by St. John’s signee Sampson, the Chargers went on a 14-0 run to take a commanding 14-2 lead with 3:33 to go in the opening quarter. Shooting 59.1-percent from the field in the first half, Madison Prep led 36-21 at the half.
With the Chargers starting to pull their starters near the end of the third quarter, Lafayette Christian still couldn’t get the deficit under double digits. The 26-point win was the largest in Class 1A since 2007.
Wrapping up their season with a 27-4 record, Lafayette Christian was led by Greg Williams 18 points and three rebounds. Kalob LeDoux added 11 points and three steals.
